I’m a full-spectrum doula and native Detroiter. Caregiving has been part of my life since childhood, from helping with babies to taking care of sick elders. I learned early how powerful it is to have nonjudgmental help during life's most vulnerable moments. Growing up in a large family, supporting one another wasn’t just expected it was a way of life. By helping cousins and aunts with new babies, I saw firsthand how essential a strong support system is for the birth, postpartum period and a baby’s development.

Meet Kamya

I became a doula because every family deserves equitable and compassionate care, regardless of their demographics. It pains me to see the statistics and horror stories that are so commonly shared in the media. The nation’s maternal health crisis is unacceptable, and its impact on Black women is especially alarming. In the state of Michigan, Black women have the highest rate of pregnancy associated maternal deaths and infant mortality (Source). I want to be a part of changing these outcomes. Seeing parents gain confidence and watching their babies thrive, knowing I helped create a safer more empowering experience is rewarding.

My mission is to walk alongside parents, honoring their choices and creating a nurturing environment that reduces medical trauma and uplifts the entire family. Trained by Birthworkers of Color Collective, I remain committed to ongoing education so I can provide fact-based, unbiased, and compassionate support for every family I serve.
